Today's Concept
Moving Beyond Demographics to Psychographics
The Lesson
Demographics describe who your client is on paper. Psychographics explain why they buy. Most coaches market to demographics — women aged 35-50, entrepreneurs, parents — and wonder why their messaging falls flat. The real power lies in understanding the internal world of your ideal client: their fears at 2 AM, the conversations they have with themselves, what they secretly believe about why they have not succeeded yet.
Create your Ideal Client Avatar by first identifying the surface characteristics. Then go deeper. What is their self-talk before discovering you? What have they already tried that failed? What would they pay anything to change? What do they risk losing if they do not solve this problem?
Name your avatar. Give them a face. The more vivid and specific, the easier every marketing decision becomes. When you know that "Sarah" is a 42-year-old marketing director who secretly fears she has wasted her potential, you know exactly what headlines to write, what stories to tell, and what objections she will raise.
Key Takeaway: The coach who understands their client's internal dialogue better than the client does will never struggle to attract clients. Specificity in your avatar creates magnetic messaging.
Today's Action Step
Complete the Ideal Client Avatar worksheet. Name your avatar, document their demographics, psychographics, pain points, desires, and buying triggers. Create a one-page avatar reference you will use for all future messaging.
