Day 04 | Module 1: Market Positioning & Niche Domination
The Podcast Business Growth System — Clozo Academy Proprietary Curriculum
Your competitors are not your enemies — they're your roadmap. By studying who already serves your target niche, you discover what's working, what's missing, and exactly where to position yourself for maximum advantage. Most new producers never do this analysis. Doing it gives you an immediate edge.
The Competitive Analysis Framework
For each of your top 3 niche candidates, identify 5-7 competitors. These include:
- Dedicated podcast production agencies
- Freelance editors who specialize in the niche
- Full-service marketing agencies that include podcasting
- Virtual assistant services that offer podcast support
- Platforms like Fiverr/Upwork top sellers in the category
For each competitor, research and document:
- Services offered — What exactly do they deliver? Editing only? Full management? Marketing?
- Pricing — What do they charge? Per episode? Monthly retainer? What's included at each tier?
- Positioning — How do they describe themselves? What language do they use?
- Client proof — Do they have testimonials? Case studies? Client logos?
- Weakness signals — Slow response times? Outdated website? Poor audio samples? Bad reviews?
- Differentiation claims — What do they say makes them different?
Finding Your Gap
After analyzing 15-20 competitors across your niches, look for patterns:
- Are most competitors focused only on editing, leaving management unserved?
- Is pricing clustered at the low end, suggesting a premium opportunity?
- Do competitors lack marketing expertise, creating an opening for growth-focused producers?
- Are response times slow, suggesting an opportunity for speed as differentiation?
- Do competitors serve everyone, creating an opening for a hyper-specialist?
Today's Action: Competitive Analysis Spreadsheet
Build a spreadsheet with:
- Competitor name and website
- Niche served (general or specific)
- Services and tiers
- Pricing (best available estimate)
- Strengths
- Weaknesses/gaps
- Your potential differentiation
At the bottom, write a 2-3 sentence gap statement: "Most competitors in [niche] focus on [X], leaving an opportunity for [Y] because [Z]."
Key Takeaway: Your competitive advantage lives in the gaps others ignore. Find the intersection of what clients need, what competitors don't deliver, and what you can provide better than anyone else.
