Day 3

The metrics that drive decisions every morning

Module: module-01

The Big Problem

Most hotel operators fly blind. They know yesterday's occupancy and maybe last month's revenue, but they lack a real-time dashboard that connects marketing spend to booking conversions to RevPAR to guest satisfaction. Without this, every decision is a guess.

Today's Objective

Design and implement a weekly KPI dashboard that tracks the metrics that actually drive revenue.

The Hotel Growth Dashboard

Track these metrics weekly in a simple spreadsheet:

Occupancy Metrics

  • Occupancy Rate (%)
  • ADR (Average Daily Rate)
  • RevPAR
  • Length of Stay (average nights per booking)

Channel Metrics

  • Direct booking percentage
  • OTA booking percentage
  • Commission cost as % of room revenue
  • Phone/walk-in percentage

Revenue Metrics

  • Total room revenue
  • Ancillary revenue (F&B, spa, parking, etc.)
  • TRevPAR
  • GOPPAR

Guest Metrics

  • Average review score (Google + TripAdvisor)
  • New vs. repeat guest percentage
  • Net Promoter Score (if measured)
  • Complaint count and category

Marketing Metrics

  • Website visitors
  • Booking engine conversion rate
  • Cost per booking by channel
  • Email open and click rates

Today's Action Items

  1. Create your KPI dashboard in a spreadsheet
  2. Populate it with the last 4 weeks of data
  3. Identify which metrics you are NOT currently tracking
  4. Set up weekly data collection rituals (who pulls what, when)

Revenue Insight

Properties that review a comprehensive KPI dashboard every Monday morning make pricing and marketing adjustments 3x faster than properties that rely on monthly P&L reports. Speed of insight equals speed of revenue capture.
